Making your course available/unavailable to students

Posted August 30th, 2011 at 11:10 am.

Moodle gives faculty the option of deciding when to make their courses available to their students. By default, all academic courses are made available to students, meaning any student who has preregistered for the course can access it on Moodle. However, there is the option to make it unavailable until it is ready. This is extremely useful for faculty who wish to get a head-start in setting up their courses, but do not wish their students to see the planning stages. Please note that if you make the course unavailable, you will have to change it back manually once the semester starts. Moodle will not do this for you automatically.

To make your course unavailable to students:

1. Click on the Edit Settings link in the Administration block (on the lower left-hand side of the page when you are in your course site).

2. Under the “General” section click on the drop-down menu next to “Visible” to choose “Hide“.

3. Scroll down to the bottom of this page and click ‘Save and Display’.

Once you do this, your course should be unavailable to students, but still available to you.
