Backing Up Your Course

  • Navigate to the Moodle course you wish to back up and click Backup under Administration.
  • Select which content to bring over (the default is everything) and click Continue at the bottom of the page.
  • The next page lists all of the files that are being backed up. Verify you have what you need and click Continue.
  • The next page explains the backup process and will say Backup completed successfully after the backup is complete. Click Continue to return to the course.
  • Click on the file with the name Backup… to download it to your computer.

Restoring Your Course

  • Go into the course shell where you want to restore the content and click Restore under Administration. (Note:¬†If you are restoring into a different/new Moodle site, e.g., you will need to go into your course on that site and click¬†Restore)
  • Upload (or drag and drop) the .mbz file you just downloaded into the top box and click Restore.
  • You will have an option to restore into the course you are currently in or another course you are teaching. Choose, then click Continue.
  • The next few pages go through the restore process and list each step. Click Next at the bottom of each page, then Perform restore on the final page.
  • When the restoration is complete, there will be a final Continue button before you are taken to the page with the restored content.
